Welcome to Project 2029
America needs an opposition. But it also needs an alternative.
Resisting the disastrous policies of the Trump Administration is important – but it’s not enough.
That’s why we’re lifting the curtain on Project 2029 – and asking you to join in our work.
Over the past months, we’ve brought together hundreds of America’s most prominent thinkers and doers to develop a big, bold agenda for the nation’s future—one that meets the scale of today’s challenges and rekindles a sense of shared purpose and possibility. These public policy experts are in universities, foundations, and think tanks from across the Democratic spectrum. Some are fresh voices; others are high-level White House and Cabinet department officials from the past three Democratic administrations. They are CEOs, entrepreneurs, community organizers, and elected officials at the federal, state, and local levels.
And though there have been a few public articles about Project 2029 (New York Times: New York Times: “Democrats Lay Groundwork for a ‘Project 2029’”; Axios: “Democrats’ Project 2029 names leader”), we have mostly kept our heads down – until now.
In the coming weeks, we will start publicly announcing some of the ideas in Project 2029 (The full plan will be released next year). So in advance of that, we are sharing some of our thoughts about where we’re headed – and asking you to be part of this effort.
We chose our name not by accident – but as a wake-up call. “Project 2025” put forward a sweeping, if deeply destructive, agenda of disruptive change that the Trump Administration is now implementing at breakneck speed.
In 2024, the Project 2025 agenda dominated the national conversation. Whatever Donald Trump’s dishonest headfakes may have been, Republicans ran on every element of that agenda.
Democrats, rightly, attacked Project 2025’s misguided ideas. But, rather than presenting their own vision, they often neglected to put forward an agenda that effectively spoke to the lives, concerns, and hopes of most Americans.
We are all paying the price for this failure.
The moment demands, and Americans deserve, an alternative vision – not just defending the progress of the past, but offering ideas for a better future.
That means doing more than the same old nostrums. Let’s be honest: In a democracy and economy that worked for most Americans, Donald Trump and his agenda wouldn’t have gotten within spitting distance of the White House.
Tinkering around the edges of big problems, recycling old solutions, or pretending that all we need are better political tactics and messages are not enough to give Americans the future they deserve.
And with the Trump Administration razing the progress and institutions of the past century, we have no choice but – and the opportunity – to build anew.
Join us in creating Project 2029.
Project 2025 may have been created in the bowels of a Washington DC think tank, but that’s not how we’re organized. Project 2029 is the product of many hands – and heads. And we’re asking you to join us.

America needs an alternative: New ideas at a time of dramatic change. Big ideas that meet the scale of profound challenges. Bold ideas in a moment crying out for so much more than just tinkers.
That’s the mission of Project 2029.
Project 2029 is an initiative of ReForm America.
